Open garden events are perfect for when a neighbourhood, community, or village want to show off their gardens and gardening skills. Alongside the gardens themselves, it is also common to provide refreshments and several fundraising stalls or plant sales. At Hog Roast Acklington, or catering is a perfect addition to any event such as this, with a variety of tasty buffets for the occasion!
Earlier in June, Hog Roast Acklington was hired to provide catering at an open gardens event taking place in a village in the North East of England. The event takes place each summer and is a great opportunity for homes to show off their garden skills and raise funds for the village hall. Alongside the plants and flowers, the event also includes several refreshment options, including cold drinks and a delicious buffet menu from Hog Roast Acklington. For the catering, our manager Jarrod was hired to provide a classic hog roast for the occasion with an additional meat-free dish to ensure that everyone can enjoy our delicious menu.
On the day of the event, Jarrod and the Hog Roast Acklington team arrived at the village hall in the morning and began to set up our catering station. We started the food preparation by slow-roasting the hog, which required over five hours to cook to perfection. Once it was packed full of natural juices and flavours, it was expertly carved by our chef and served in fresh bread rolls, alongside sage and onion stuffing, homemade applesauce, and crispy crackling. Additionally, we also served succulent pork sausages and veggie sausages. For the side dishes, the guests could enjoy a selection of seasonal salad dishes and homemade chips, creating a varied buffet lunch with plenty of dishes to choose from.
