While we still can’t quite believe how quickly this year is flying in, Hog Roast had a brilliant start to the month of September after being invited along to a party that had been organised in celebration of Star Trek day!
For those of you who don’t know, every year on September 8th, which is the anniversary of when the OG series first launched, Trekkies get together to share their love of the popular sci-fi franchise. This year marked 56 years since the initial launch, which is an impressive feat, to say the least – especially as the universe and fanbase continue to expand to keep up with modern trends.
Since being made aware of this annual holiday a few years back, Hog Roast Morpeth has had the pleasure of attending a fair number of these events. And the most recent Star Trek celebration we worked at had been organised by a group of mega-fans, who had a very clear vision in mind for the day.
Not only had they encouraged guests to show up in full cosplay (a.k.a. costume), but they also wanted everyone to roleplay the characters they had come as, along with acting out well-known battle scenes to make the experience feel as authentic as possible. The guests really loved this idea, and the venue decor that the organisers had chosen further added to the overall experience.
Of course, activity-fuelled events like these always get guests’ appetites going, so it was a good thing that our Hog Roast Morpeth team was there to serve our Classic Hog Roast Menu to the group. This iconic feast consisted of one of our full-sized free-range pigs, which our team had traditionally slow-roasted on the HogMaster grill for close to 6 hours, resulting in tender and juicy meat encased in perfectly crispy crackling.
The hog roast meat was expertly carved by our catering manager, Jarrod, before being served on gluten-free cobs with stuffing and applesauce. He and the team had also prepared mixed fries, coleslaw and salad sides, along with a meat-free choice of BBQ-pulled jackfruit rolls for veggie/vegan attendees.
Everyone had a blast at this celebratory event, and what’s more, they were all thoroughly impressed by Hog Roast Morpeth’s excellent cooking, which kept their energy levels up all day long!
